I forgot they were good right to the end.
Getting close to zero hour, so Tubby and his goons are trying to fuck with the election. For example, he was very specific about ordering his consigliere Todd Blanche to sue to get Alaska to throw out its Senate election results if they don’t go his way. (There’s an indie candidate with the same name as the Republican, which the Alaska Supreme Court already ruled was no reason to block his candidacy.)
No one could or does think this is a sincere attempt to follow the will of the electorate -- it’s just fascist bullshit, which is this administration’s, and the Republican Party’s, only area of competence. Another example is Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy putting opponent Amy Acton’s scumbag mom out there to claim her scumbag husband didn’t rape her daughter when she was a child, notwithstanding that the county brought charges against him (which he fled, along with mom, escaping justice for the remainder of his life). Trump of course supports Ramaswamy on this, as a fellow MAGA and a fellow fan of sexual assault, and was especially nasty to a female reporter who challenged him, which is very much in character.
The Ramaswamy Rape thing is partly the subject of one of our Roy Edroso Breaks It Down freebies this week. I connect it to some other rightwing pathologies -- the growing panic over adults who go no-contact with their asshole parents, for example, and “covenant marriage” -- that I believe are rooted in a core conservative belief: That insisting on your own autonomy is sacrilege if it conflicts with the will of their sanctioned authority figures. I’ll be talking about that more in the future because I think it’s the key to the modern American Right. Maybe I’ll call it “From Rushdoony to Ramaswamy.” (BTW I’m not the only one making these connections.)
I should add that Trump’s repeated attempts to bribe voters into electing Republicans -- from the fanciful $5,000 offer some weeks back to the latest, a last-minute drawback on Canada tariffs designed to help Susan Collins -- is part of the whole implied patriarchal scheme: The resources of the nation are not the property of its citizens, but rather those of the mob boss, and he dispenses them only to those who do as he says.
The other freebie is based on Trump’s increasingly obvious senile disinhibition and where I expect it to lead -- and how the twats of the Prestige Press will handle it (with a gentle stroking motion).
