FILE YOUR NOMINATIONS!

The Stupidest Reaction to the Capture of a Benghazi Suspect Contest is sure to be heated, but let me nominate Patterico:
Guy Arrested for Benghazi Attack Has Been Hanging Out in Plain Sight for Ages
Obama done caught him a terrorist. Yay! Except . . . what took so long?...
Hm. He sounds easy to find. If you care...
Doesn’t sound like Obama cared.
What's this remind me of -- oh yeah: "In six games!"

Got any nominees of your own? All serious candidates considered. I warn you, though, you can forget about low-hanging fruit -- so don't comb the gutters for small-time operators peddling fringe Benghazi truther bullshit like... um... um... popular radio blowhard Joe Walsh ("Timing of Benghazi Arrest Suspicious")... Ah, prairie shit -- everybody!

  1. Our host already knows this but of course the FBI and Special Ops have been tracking this dude for a year so as to nab him with no one harmed because that is the difference between the right-wing WAR-WAR all the time that causes yet more disasters and the Obama approach which is more surgical and precise. And, of course, that makes the MSM sad because not enough explosions and technicolor.

I understand the suspect has already said the riots were sparked by a video, then used opportunistically by the attackers. This was of course the story that Obama and Susan Rice "peddled" when it happened. In Bitter Fear Land, where the GOP lives, that version was shot down based on two nig facts: 1) Obama always lies, and 2) Terrorists are all-powerful masterminds. Now here comes the "mastermind" saying Obama & Rice were spot-on... so will the rightwingers belatedly congratulate our intel community for being the world's best... or insist this is evidence of collusion? "Their stories match up! PROOF that Obama and the terrorists coordinated from the very start!"

Can I nominate the entire Republican house membership? Their instant reaction was "This Benghazi arrest is just a way to distract from, uh, something--like maybe Benghazi!"

Or maybe the nut who claimed it was done to help Hillary with her book sales should get the nod.

I'll go with the last option there. Especially since the Heritage Foundation spectacle over the weekend where rightwing luminaries opined about how Obama is working with Jihadists, and Hillary and he are secretly imposing Sharia law even as we speak!

After that it'll only be a few weeks until the Benghazi truthers go full on like their original namesakes and start claiming no one was killed at all. And that the damage to the embassy was caused by explosives planted by the U.S. government.

Everyone knows that Obama is in the pocket of big Book Publishing. Hell, Simon & Schuster's CEO probably was the one who actually did the killing at the embassy in Benghazi. All so years later he could gain the megabucks to be had from Hillary's book from the market who thinks she's involved in a massive cover-up.

Well if you want some spicy skreeeeeee there's Shoebat.

This too smacked of suspicious timing and contrivance. Obama bemoaning the “phony scandals” known as Benghazi and IRS and recently, the VA scandal, the Bergdahl swap, the ISIS march on Mosul, and news of a lame excuse that Lois Lerner’s emails have been lost in a computer crash have been compounding Obama’s problems.

So why not attempt to neutralize all of those troubles with the announcement that a top Benghazi suspect had been arrested and is on his way to the U.S?

Not sure how Obama could get too worried. Apparently the world is one big Parcheesi board and he can tip it over and dump all the pieces whenever he isn't winning.

My preferred version is that they tracked him for a year just to play out more rope for the GOP to hang themselves. It may not be true, but it should be.

I prefer to think that they tracked him for a year to research his mating habits, diet, and migration patterns.

Hm. He sounds easy to find. If you care...

I'd say the evidence is pretty strong that the president cares about tracking down terrorists, given that he stayed on task and tracked down this other guy who killed a lot of Americans, and about whom his predecessor had this to say, on March 13, 2003:

Q: But don't you believe that the threat that bin Laden posed won't truly be eliminated until he is found either dead or alive?

W: Well, as I say, we haven't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.

Patterico notably had nothing to say at the time, or in the following almost 7 full years of the Bush presidency, about the president's failure to kill or bring bin Laden to justice, even after Bush had publicly stated that it wasn't a priority for him.

Obama? He made it a priority; bin Laden was dead within 18 months of Obama taking office. And it didn't require a full-scale war to get him, either. This time, it took 21 months to round up the wanted party, again without starting a full-scale war. This indicates the patience and maturity to see a job through, even one that takes longer than a few hours or days without a payoff.

Sounds like Patterico's problem is that he wasn't gratified immediately enough. Like all toddlers, delayed gratification is a concept he just can't grasp. Mommy won't buy a new toy racecar? SMASH the racecars you have in a fit of rage. Can't find the guy who attacked and killed thousands of your fellow citizens? BOMB the shit out of a big piece of real estate; with any luck you might even hit the guy who did it, but even if you don't, things go BOOM!

There was a Foxbot who claimed that the raid was timed to give Hillary something to talk about during her scheduled interview on Fox that evening. That's got to be worth something on the grounds of sheer self-centeredness.

Jeffrey Godlstein: "I question the timing", and writes regarding a WH press briefing on the capture:
The fact is, everyone in that room – and everyone in the country who has followed this presidency, for that matter — knew that this whole dog and pony show had been orchestrated, that Obama has been holding back what he believed to be a trump card for a time when the heat for some of his lawlessness and fecklessness began to pierce his air conditioned super town car and threatened to interrupt his golf outings.
    ...
We are on to Obama and this administration. And our frustration is over the GOP’s timidity in holding him to account, preferring not to rock the boat so that they can perhaps default their way back into power.

    All of them disgust me.

Right. If only Darrell Issa, et al, et al were less timid Godlstein, for whom disgust is both a cardinal humor and an eternal schtick, would be less disgusted.

Not exactly on-point, but it revolts-and-saddens me to my core that this, if correct (it does after all come from Faux Nooz) passes muster as 'justice' in today's 'Merka:

"Khattala is now being held aboard a U.S. Naval ship -- the USS New York -- as it makes its way to the United States... Officials hope to have as much time with him as possible before having to read his Miranda rights and hand him off to a lawyer. The decision on when that should happen rests with President Obama... At the moment, officials describe the Navy vessel carrying him as being on a "slow" trip back to the United States...."
On behalf of your still-civilised allies and global neighbors, I say Grrrrrr.
