'SMATTER, BITCH, CAN'T TAKE A COMPLIMENT?

After Wendy Davis' spectacular filibuster in the Texas legislature, Governor Rick Perry heaved some calculated insults at her ("She was the daughter of a single woman, she was a teenage mother herself... It is just unfortunate that she hasn’t learned from her own example that every life must be given a chance to realize its full potential and that every life matters") which Davis took as they were intended. National Review's David French, being a gentleman, rose to defend Rick Perry, in a post called "Governor Perry Appropriately Compliments Wendy Davis; Left Goes Crazy":
Governor Perry’s first statement regarding her life story is a compliment — an appropriate and generous thing to say about a political opponent.
The next remark is, quite simply, the obvious thing to say. In fact, the Governor is more tempered than he needs to be. It’s not just “unfortunate,” it’s tragic that she has taken the remarkable gifts that she’s been given and the remarkable achievements she’s earned and turned them toward the cause of death.
See, lady? These fellers are just saying what a shame it is a smart gal like you became a genocidal maniac.

By the time this conservative outreach to female voters is over, Republican National Headquarters won't even need a ladies' room.

There's also the fact that French seems to miss the point of his own word "chose." At the very least it's something he doesn't think women should be encouraged to do.

When I said that Rick Perry fucks goats, I only meant that he's an animal lover. It's a compliment.

Y'know, at this point, I'm really conflicted about how Perry came to be the way he is. Was he abducted by aliens and suffered permanent brain damage from unspeakable experiments, or, was he just born stupid and nasty and needs to be abducted just to have his act cleaned up?

And, if the latter, are our extraterrestrial overlords prepared to take on the 55% of Texans who voted for him, too?

Even the most beneficent of advanced civilizations might just say, "fuck that shit" and give up.

As for the greater Republican scheme of things, well, Human Anagram, Perry's your problem, not mine. You're the one that suffers assholes gladly. It's part of your job description.

Yeah, baby! But only until it exits the womb. After that it's a dreg on society if its baby mama needs food stamps or SCHIP to keep the little miracle alive so as to realize said full potential and to matter.

Give Rick Perry credit. He managed to call Davis a bastard without upsetting the church ladies.

    " ... every life matters."

At which point, Perry fired off his six-guns and shouted, "Yee-haw!" to celebrate Texas' 500th execution since 1982.

I just thought maybe ... some people just misinterpreted the compliment. Just my two cents...

The level of tone-deafness on the right when it comes to women, minorities, gays--anyone other than white men--is just amazing.

But what's even more incredible is how a bunch of people so fixated on Jesus can be so completely impervious to nearly everything Jesus taught while being so receptive to stuff Jesus never said.

The insult starts when Perry can't even be bothered to give "the woman" a name:
In fact, even the woman who filibustered the Senate the other day was born into difficult circumstances.

What Rick Perry really said was this:
She was the daughter of a single woman, she was a teenage mother herself and, uh, what's the third one there?...

There is little choice in the matter when birth control and other options are not available. It is the equivalent of being held hostage. To point out that someone was held hostage and managed to succeed in life is not a good example of choosing life, but rather taking the only option offered. Well, there is always suicide.

I, for one, am inspired by Governor Perry's stirring defense of the dignity and worth of all human life, no matter how humble. He's absolutely right that nobody can decide that a life is not worth living or that it has no potential.

I'm sure any day now he's going to introduce a second bill to outlaw the death penalty. Yep. Any day now...

So. "Cause of death," bad. I assume Mr. French will have a column calling for repealing the Second Amendment & disbanding the U.S. military quite soon.

Unless he stretches it & devotes a column to each.

Anyone know Frenchy's position on the death penalty? Maybe it's the same as that woman (Schlafly? Can't remember.) who was in favor of executions 'cause that may be the only chance for the executee to get straight w/ Gawd.

  21. Well, they're not supposed to be raised by the mother, are they? The healthy ones go up for adoption. The sickly or disabled ones become wards of the state so that we can stop gay people and other undesirables from raising them.

Truly, a wonderful system that conservatives envision.

Aside from the condescension and ignorance already commented on, I noted the bit where Perry says that Davis "managed to eventually graduate from Harvard Law School"; this, of course, from the guy who managed (barely) not to flunk out of Texas A & M.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Good comparison, since Rick Perry has probably said that, too.

Or, as The Onion so aptly put it:

“As of today, Texas leads all states with its 500 total executions, 393 of whom were guilty individuals, and 98 executions of prisoners who they’re fairly certain were guilty.”

  27. "Yee-haw!"

Or, as The Onion so aptly put it:

“I was completely devastated after learning that abortion providers throughout the state would remain open, but thankfully, there’s nothing better to lift up our spirits than an old-fashioned execution,” said Fort Worth anti-abortion activist Caroline Hinton ...

When making fun of ... umm... folks like Perry, just remember; he was elected (THREE TIMES) by the good people of Texas, as was Tailgunner Ted Cruz, as was Louie "Terror Babies" Gohmert, among others. Wendy Davis is a hero who will quite probably lose her seat in the next election. Jesus... remind me again why we fought the Civil War...

  41. Jesus, you don't "manage to eventually graduate" from Harvard Law, or any other law school, for that matter. Someone should make Rick Perry sit the LSAT--never mind the bar--and see if he could even qualify to attend even the shittiest law school in the country, whichever that might be. I bet he couldn't even pass one of the spelling quizzes I used to give my eighth-grade English students.

Once upon a time, I *was* one of those -- I went the disabled-ward-of-the-state-to-adoptee route, because I was really lucky.

Three years before I was born, my home jurisdiction abolished its *Eugenics Board*.

Perry can kiss my ass, and then some.

I was born before abortion was legal in my home jurisdiction (as I said upthread, a mere three years after they abolished the *Eugenics Board* -- yes, that was a thing), and I get *real* twitchy about the subject.

I wish I had something clever to say, but I mostly just get stabby.
