Among the outtakes was Larry Kudlow's column, in which he referred to Obama's and Rubio's speeches as "dueling State of the Union messages" and said "by far the best line" of the evening was Rubio's "Presidents in both parties -- from John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan -- have known that our free-enterprise economy is the source of our middle-class prosperity" -- a bit of rhetoric I'd put on the level of "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog," but which Kudlow called "a brilliant summary of pro-growth policies, on the supply-side and in a free-market context." The bar is set low for Republican boy wonders, apparently.
I had a lot of American Spectator contributions in this one, and could have added more. When one of your SOTU rebuttals contains this...
Listening to Obama’s address on Tuesday night, I was reminded of something I read last week from Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Letters and Papers from Prison. Bonhoeffer was, of course, a German theologian who lived during the Hitler era....you might consider beginning all your subscriber messages, "Dear Fellow Dead-Ender."
Roy. You are a savant when it comes to collecting assorted nuts. Long may you feed my brain.
ReplyDeleteOne Mark Meckler of Tea Party Patriots compared Washington to the Capital City of The Hunger Games, a trope that despite the flogging of top rightbloggers has yet to make the big time.
ReplyDeleteThey're not that far off, from what I understand. Collins got the idea from reality television, but her frustration at the crackdown on dissent and surveillance state after 9/11 also informed the books, particularly the later ones in the trilogy, which were first written in 2006. But, as usual, they misunderstand the parallels.
The left's favorite Scotch-drinking stand up is Ron "Tater Salad" White.
ReplyDeleteOf is it Foster Brooks?
Adam Corolla (shiver), they really ARE serious about taking over Hollywood....
ReplyDeleteThe hilarity of Adam Carolla complaining about people being overpaid and irresponsible was magnificent.
ReplyDeleteYou mean Gallagher hasn't already?
ReplyDeleteWAKE UP PEEPLE!!!! THE COMMENTS OF AMERICAN SPECTATOR* INFORM US OF THE MOST DIRE DEVELOPMENTS!!!:
ReplyDeleteObama signed an executive order right before the SOTU.
1. Attack the internet
2. Blame an enemy (China, Iran, N. Korea, right wing etc)
3. Take control of the internet
4. Then a major false flag attack on a city or infrastructure
5. Shut down internet
6. Marshall law
DOES THE PRESIDENTS DIABOLICALITY KNOW NO BOUND'S?!!!!! HOW CAN I KEEP PUBLISHING MY THOUGHTS IF THEY'RE'S NO INTERNET?!!!!

Paul Mooney?
ReplyDeleteAttack the internet then take control of it! Folks, we're dealing with the next Sun Tzu here!
ReplyDeleteWell, Obama was of course president in 2006. He took over from Bill Clinton in 2004. You libruls don't know nothin' about history.
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshal_Law_(comics)
ReplyDeleteIn Kudlow's defense, he was doing cocaine.
ReplyDeleteNo offense Roy, but I skipped over the part about the minimum wage hike. There's a lot I can take, but well-fed dipshits snarling at the idea of people making a decent living is on the other side of the line.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that Carolla's statement was really meant to buck up the conservative side of things, so much as it was "I'm an asshole misogynist! Hey, here's something for me to be misogynistically assholeish about! POOR WOMEN'S VAGINAS ARE RUINING THIS COUNTRY"
ReplyDeleteBut, you know, you can't blame the rightbloggers for grabbing on to any thrown line.
(That said, I can do that. And will!)
Jonah Goldberg .... announced he had been attacked for speaking out against "the rote insistence that Jill Biden be referred to 'Doctor Jill Biden,'" though he failed to tell us who had thus rotely insisted. "Jill Biden isn't a 'real' doctor," Goldberg explained. "She holds a doctorate in education." Goldberg then denounced people who insisted on being called Doctor as well as "people who insist on calling other people 'Doctor,'" whom he claimed "do so for similar reasons -- out of an over-compensating need to show respect."
ReplyDeleteKudos to Jonah for finally demonstrating minimal journalistic credentials with his basic grasp of AP style. That said, who but the Austrians, so beloved of fellow-traveler Lew Rockwell, have mastered the art of honorific inflation?
Puleeze! Everyone knows the proper plural is 'boys wonder'.
ReplyDeleteIt's rule by the Marshall Plan. First he'll take control of his attacked Internet and shut it down, and then he'll spend billions of dollars rebuilding postwar Europe and allowing the return of prosperity to an otherwise horribly ravaged economy, not incidentally bulwarking the spread of international Communism. And for this, he must be stopped.
ReplyDelete"Any minute now The Washington Post will start daily posts about how 'Bottled Water is the New Macaca,'" added Foley's colleague Michael Fletcher.
ReplyDeleteHey, um rightbloggers? If you want to convince America that this Rubio thing is a nothingburger - and if, against all odds, you happen to be right on this one - you might want to avoid comparing it with George Allen's slack-jawed racist outburst. Just a thought.
Hey Rubio, Mitt Romney called. He wants his stump speech back.
ReplyDelete(Although God knows why.)
He took over from Bill Clinton Ayers in 2004.
ReplyDeleteFTFY
Step six is to bring back that cop show with Sammo Hung? This truly is an audacious plan.
ReplyDeleteAdam Carolla must have been put on this planet to make our lives easier. There's a consistency to his life and career that's lacking in many other con culture heroes. He didn't write Glengary Glen Ross and American Buffalo. His guitar playing didn't inspire a young Eddie Vedder the way the Nuge's did. He's not responsible for the alarming and poignant portrayal of Joe Buck. No, Carolla has always been a douchey little toad man, and if The Man Show was ever accidentally funny, it was because of Joe Rogan.
ReplyDeleteRoy's making you dependent, when you should be out collecting your own assorted nuts.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a good chance to cut a deal. I'll stop saying 'Dr. Biden' if they stop saying 'Governor Palin.'
ReplyDeleteWhile not a follower of his entire oeuvre, I did see a couple episodes of a "reality" show he did several years ago in which he supervised a project to remodel a house. One episode consisted of Carolla going AWOL from the jobsite for most of the day to get a set of new after-market wheels installed on his brand-new Aston Martin (because we all know how crappy the factory-installed wheels are on a $175,000 Aston Martin).
ReplyDeleteOf course a lot of people misunderstand the parallels. The crackdown on Occupy Wall Street, which was aided and abetted by the Obama administration, was far more savage than anything done by the Bush administration to anti-war protestors. And the growth and power of the surveillance state continues unabated from 9/11/2001 through 9/11/2012 and beyond.
ReplyDeleteAnd regarding hunger, I don't know how they measure inflation. Must be by the price of brillo pads, wooden mousetraps, lye soap and lard, or some basket of goods no one buys because the price of essential things has been rising precariously. Hunger is, as they say, on the rise. Big bottles of Tide detergent have become currency in the inner cities. The metaphors that drive "The Hunger Games" are not so far out. Unfortunately, in a more sane world, it would be the liberals flogging those kinds of tropes since it's conservative policies that cause most of the problems.
Just tryin' to imagine a DB8 with spinner hubcaps....
ReplyDeleteChina, Iran, N. Korea, right wing
ReplyDeleteOne of these is not like the othe... hmm... never mind.
The audacity of dopes.
ReplyDeletei take it this is a different Jonah Goldberg from the one who for a while was proudly announcing on every opportunity that he had received not one, but two Pulitzer prize nominations.
ReplyDeleteI hire blind squirrels to collect them, job creator that I am.
ReplyDeleteI did say "minimal". As in, something required of sophomores and paid interns.
ReplyDelete"Tonight, if I even remember to turn on my television, my eyes will be
ReplyDeleteon Samuel Alito, the most principled and civilized high court justice,"
sulked the Spectator's own Matthew Walther.
Did he explain how he proposed to do that given Alito's absence from the ceremony?
It takes a very special mentality to switch from complaining in one sentence about the gall of parents demanding a living wage or social assistance to help raise their children when the responsible course is to acquire a second income; to extolling the virtues of his own mother, a solo parent on social assistance.
ReplyDeletePresidents in both parties -- from John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan

Feckin' Boomers.
'The Rachel Maddow Show,' which played the moment on loop at the bottom of the screen for more than 13 minutes"
ReplyDeleteTroll level: Expert.
The bar is set low for Republican boy wonders, apparently."
ReplyDeleteWhen is "The bar is set low for Republican (X)s" ever NOT the case? Remember when all Snow Snookie had to do to be declared the winner of a debate was remain upright and have half the words she used be identifiable as part of the English language?
This guy Golub has quite a long list of ancient grudges, doesn't he? (A list which seemingly includes every right-wing whack job whose ass was not kissed effusively by a grateful public.) Bork? All anyone did to him was point to his own legal opinions as evidence that he was a bull-goose looney. Thomas? You mean "the best legal mind in America," as GHWB chose to describe him? The guy who preferred perjury over hard work to get ahead (and perjury over accounting in his financial statements)? That Thomas?
ReplyDeleteDan Quayle? You mean the Dan Quayle who as VP entered a third-grade spelling bee--and lost? The guy who thought NASA was an island in the Caribbean? That Dan Quayle?
Michele Bachmann? Oh, lord, Golub's desperation is setting in, isn't it? The only seat in Congress where Republicans had to gerrymander in the insane to keep her afloat? The Congresswoman who thinks that Muslim Brotherhood homosexuals in black helicopters have infiltrated the government? She of the Great Lightbulb Conspiracy of 2008? That Bachmann?
Sarah Palin? No accounting of Palin's bozoesque appearance on the national stage can do the woman real justice, except to say that she makes Bachmann look like a model of superior intelligence, gravitas, good breeding and impeccable judgment.
Finally, this ink-guzzling pipsqueak thinks it was, in point of fact, George W. Bush who was bullied? That's a bit like asserting that it was Little Nell who tied Snidely Whiplash to the train tracks. Like blaming Burkina Faso for the Cold War. Like accusing the Maldives of responsibility for global warming.
The simple truth, as we know, is that the entire world was victimized by a passive-aggressive, bullying, resentful little trust-fund baby named George. Bullying was his raison d'être.
But, the capper is this: " Mocking insults and ridicule are Alinskyite tools meant to stigmatize and dehumanize conservatives until they fear speaking out."
Now, I ask you, imploringly and without a milligram of insincerity: when--ever--have conservatives been in fear of speaking out? Nothing, and I mean nothing, has caused any of them to refrain from repeating, loudly and publicly, some of the most insane, scurrilous, vituperative, divisive, mean-spirited, cock-eyed, lopsided, goofy bullshit imaginable. And when called on it, one can probably count less than a handful of genuinely sincere apologies from them in the last six decades. "Oh, I was just joking. It's a joke, get it?" Or, "I was quoted out of context." Or, the old standby, "I'm sorry I advocated ____________ [insert as required: the overthrow of the government, assassination of the President, licenses to hunt liberals, lynchings, nuking San Francisco, murdering abortion doctors, starving millions of people], but...."
To Golub, conservative victimhood is wearing hob-nailed boots and being prevented from stomping some old lady with them.
Or, alternatively, Marshall Law.
ReplyDeleteAlito? What, was Scalia nice to a Muslim lady or something and is now the subject of a rightblogger Shunning?
ReplyDeleteShirley "rule by Marshall Plan" would require Obama to perform Blue Oyster Cult cover versions in every press conference.
ReplyDeleteI could live with that, as long as he was allowed to choose multiple source songs.
ReplyDelete"Ladies and gentlemen, my fellow Americans, from global climate change to volcano monitoring, the Republican party has proven that it is not willing to take even the most critical of steps to protect ourselves from devastating environmental disasters, when history shows again and again how nature points out the folly of men. Godzilla, people. Godzilla."
Douglas Holtz-Eakin "... wonder[s] why the Congress even invites him to speak."
ReplyDeleteIf you turn to article 3 of that constitution you carry in your pocket as a prop, Douglas, you'll see that Congress doesn't invite him to give the SotU, the constitution orders him to do so.
Maybe what he has in his pocket is the constitution of the CSA. Or lint.
Considering that the Reagan presidency was the exact point at which "middle-class prosperity" started to shrivel up and die, that was an appropriate stopping point.
ReplyDeleteBut white mommies don't shit out kids, because, see, their babies aren't brown.
ReplyDeleteThis victimization canard is so over-used by wingnuts that I suspect it is a natural trait, like swimming for fish.
ReplyDeleteI would add another motivation for those in the limelight, though. When you are one of the flavors of conservatoid that walk the Earth, and rule through intimidation, tribal-authoritarian appeal, and cult of personality, instead of guiding with sound policies and an obvious concern for the welfare of your constituents, you might get a bit worried that you followers may see through the facade when normal people laugh at you.
Fellows like him keep their Constitution copies tightly rolled up so that they can brandish it at their enemies while muttering "avada kedavra". If they were to unroll it to read it, it would lose its mystic power.
ReplyDelete"Look! There's another Hispano-Conservo! Get Him!!"
ReplyDeleteNo, Ann... that's "Jose Cuervo". Have another and lie down for a bit.
I got this site from my buddy who informed me on the topic of this website and now this time I am
ReplyDeletevisiting this web site and reading very informative posts at this place.
My homepage ... http://www.urfreeradio.com/
I'm amazed that even a bottom-feeder would cite Palin as an example, as no one with a shred of sanity or self-respect (which excludes Charlotte Allen) really wanted her around after her brief moment of glory, although they sort of pretended to out of fear of offending her notional fan base, which turned out to be not so much of a much. I expected PJTV or Breitbart to add her on as a "correspondent", but the closest that we got was this lulzfest.
ReplyDeleteIn Adam Corolla's defense (words I never thought would appear in that sequence) he's never claimed to be any kind of a thinker. So no surprise he found a political home where he did.
ReplyDeleteIf God has a sense of humor she'll leave his memories intact when he's reincarnated as a pregnant girl in Somalia.
"...many of the Left's favorite comedians even take a sip of scotch on stage."
ReplyDeleteYeah... Rubio could have turned that "water moment" right around if only he had thought to wink, and followed it up with a Gleasonesque "Mmm... that's good BOOZE".
They've already memorized all the parts they care about: the Second and Tenth Amendments.
ReplyDeleteI'd prolly be ok with Jude Law.
ReplyDeleteClearly, Carolla was meant for the Daily Caller:
ReplyDelete“Again, all these speeches that all these politicians make, right and left — they discuss the problem. Basically, what they’re discussing is how to take a ship that’s capsized and drain it and get it back up. But they never discuss what capsizes the ship, which is the only fucking discussion they should be having — is ballast-oriented: How did it get capsized? Not how do we un-capsize it.”
And that is why Adam Carolla's Titanic is much, much less successful than that other film. Also of interest is that, amidst the talk of underemployed women "shitting out kids" is the factoid that Carolla's own mother was on welfare.
"and rubio woulda gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for you meme-ing kids!"
ReplyDeleteAnd the failure of any of this to take place shows just how wily and deceptive Obama and his minions are. Enjoy being lulled into your false sense of security, America.
ReplyDeleteI got this far:
ReplyDeleteSome far-away clueless politician has arbitrarily decided that $4 an hour is not fair and not enough to live on.
Right. Some far-right pundit thinks that $8,000 a year is enough to live on and it's the politician who's clueless.
In an era of billionaire hedge-funders, equity vultures, and carried interest tax loopholes, can you imagine the soul of someone who would reflexively deny the working poor an extra $14 a day for their labor? That's probably this guy's daily Immodium allowance.
I freaking love this place.
ReplyDeleteJust had to say that.
"That said, who but the Austrians, so beloved of fellow-traveler Lew Rockwell, have mastered the art of honorific inflation?"
ReplyDeleteAnd you know who else was born in Austria? (sorry - some nameless Internet Traditon bade me, nay - forced me, to do it)
Aww... knock it off, ya big lug...
ReplyDeleteHispano-Conservo? She really is a terrible writer.
ReplyDeleteWallmart is freaking out because they've discovered that the ending of the payroll tax holiday has caused their average customer to "lose" 15 dollars a week in spending money. That's right--15 dollars a week is causing their target market to have to think twice about the "frivolities" which they purchase at walmart. Instead of being outraged that 15 dollars a week is considered a significant amount in anyone's budget they are upset that the government is looting this amount from people's paychecks. Wonder when they will figure out that increasing even their own workers salaries in concert with everyone's pay rising is actually good for business, not the end of the world.
ReplyDeleteAre you some kind of Communist, like Henry Ford?
ReplyDeleteNext year the Republican SOTU response will be Jim Hoft trying to skip rope while singing "Benghazi! Alinsky! Solyndra! Salaam! Obama's a commie and so is his mom!"
ReplyDeleteOr, alternatively still, rule by former Laverne & Shirley stars.
ReplyDeleteI think Hispano-Conservo was the engine for many British and French WW1 airplanes
ReplyDeleteThat's Herr Doktor Congressman Ron Paul to you!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to compose a wingnut limerick but am not sure how to end it. I've got this so far:
ReplyDeleteBenghazi Solyndra Whitewater
Ward Churchill Bill Ayers Vince Foster.
Fluoride Feminazi,
Long form vault copy.
Amero One World ???
I prefer Marshall Crenshaw. I think he was a gang leader out of South Central.
ReplyDeleteOhmygod, its the decline and fall of western civilization according to the HuffPo and Chuckling. The relevant text:
ReplyDeleteAlthough Harrison Sprague, a detective with police department in Prince George’s County, Md., calls Tide "liquid gold," and told The Daily that thousands of dollars' worth of it are being stolen, CVS Pharmacy official Mike DeAngelis told Fox News that stories about the rising tide of Tide thefts are overblown.
"We are not experiencing a 'wave' of Tide thefts," DeAngelis wrote in an email to Fox News. "In a few markets, we've placed security devices on Tide bottles that will trigger an alarm if a shoplifter tries to remove it from the store without paying," DeAngelis said. "However, theft of Tide is not a new issue in the retail industry."
You know what else is frequently stolen off the shelves at CVS? Prilosec and Condoms. Are those also proof that the people are nearing a Hunger Games like death by starvation?
More irresponsible minimum wage earners should consider entering the lucrative field of professional assholery.
ReplyDeleteOh come on, it's Marshall Mathers! The new hip GOP.
ReplyDeleteDid someone say... Marshal Law?
ReplyDeleteMarshall Law? I think I went to school with him.
ReplyDeleteFor the last line -
ReplyDeleteNAFTA Highway Hil-ar-y
Okay, I got nuttin'...
Well, if there's a corresponding rise in gasoline theft via siphoning perhaps someone's stocking up to make home-made napalm...
ReplyDeleteIt's telling that they can't even figure out WHY the moment was revealing, for Rubio or for Allen. They equate the two things - Allen's revelation of his virulent racism, and the revelation that Rubio isn't the savior they're propping him up to be.
ReplyDeleteSomeday, someway you'll know how much I like this comment.
ReplyDelete"...many of the Left's favorite comedians even take a sip of scotch on stage."
ReplyDeleteComedian in a nightclub = senator speaking to nation? Really? Explains why the right sends so many unqualified idiots to congress.
Replace "one world" with "black helicopter".
ReplyDeleteby far the best line... John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan -- have known that our free-enterprise economy is the source of our middle-class prosperity
ReplyDeleteI'll just leave this right here:
This is the first time since the [FLSA] came into existence under the administration of President Franklin Roosevelt in 1938 that we have been able to expand the coverage. I don't believe that there's any American who believes that any man or woman should have to work in interstate commerce, in companies of substantial size, for less than a dollar twenty-five cents an hour, or fifty dollars a week. That itself is a very minimum wage, and I therefore want to commend the Members of the Congress in the House and the Senate, the Chairmen of the Subcommittees who were particularly involved, under the leadership of the House and Senate, for their untiring efforts.
$1.25 in 1961 = $9.60 in 2012.
Well, the Tide thing, true or not, was a very minor point. But certainly the violent crackdown on OWS and the bigger picture showing the growth and power of the national security state are, imo, examples of the decline of western civilization.
ReplyDeleteSo are you okay with how the OWS suppression went down? Do you not think hunger is an increasing problem. Have you rethought your indifference to drone strikes and the legal arguments that the administration is making to justify them? What about the NDDA and it's provisions for indefinite detention without trial?
Seriously, the legal restraints on government acting in those ways are the foundations of western civilization. Not trying to be insulting, but I genuinely find it hard to believe that one can turn a blind eye to all that crap and still consider oneself a liberal. I can see big tent type compartmentalizing on lesser issues, but without habeas corpus, everything else is illusory.
YEAH! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe bar is set low for Republican boy wonders, apparently.
ReplyDeleteNow, that's some mighty fine boilerplate, there. MIGHTY FINE!
Isn't it really just "The Running Man" redux?
ReplyDeleteLast time I checked, lard was a foodstuff, in fact a prized ingredient for making homemade pie crust, tamales, and refried beans
ReplyDeleteIt's safe to say that Guest is a cynical girl.
ReplyDeleteOoh... I got it, China actually produces things of some value!
ReplyDeleteThat's right--15 dollars a week is causing their target market to have to think twice about the "frivolities" which they purchase at walmart.
ReplyDeleteFrivolities like toilet paper.
Ya know, his bit about the ballast situation capsizing the ship is actually correct, even if he misses the real point. The economy has too much "ballast" loaded at the top, which is what is causing the problem.
ReplyDeleteEven better, he could have delivered a hilarious "Stay thirsty, my friends" after his sippy break.
ReplyDeleteand only part of the second, at that.
ReplyDeleteThese comments are my favorite waste of time.
ReplyDeleteI want to see this asshole living on $4/hr. For a long, long time. I guarantee you in three or four years you'd have a labor radical instead of an apologist for predatory capitalism. (Well, maybe not. Some of these idiots never learn.)
ReplyDeleteSo many of these stupid fuckers look at, say, Cambodia, and think, "paradise!," because someone can just barely survive there on twenty cents an hour, and never once consider the long-term effects of neocolonialism.
We've had a couple of generations growing up with the economic legerdemain of the Reaganite supply-siders, so I expect this idiocy now and then. I just never expected so many people to still believe it after the horrors of the last thirty years.
And he could use 'Me-262' to kick off a discussion regarding the cost-effectiveness of technologically immature high-tech wunder-waffen as part of a coherent and fiscally sound defense policy !
ReplyDeleteHe ran the gamut from H through L
ReplyDeleteMore or less, though that wasn't entirely original, either. Hell, there was a Star Trek episode with a televised gladiator contest on an alternate-history planet where Rome never fell.
ReplyDeleteWonder when they will figure out that increasing even their own workers salaries in concert with everyone's pay rising is actually good for business, not the end of the world.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me you're not holding your breath. I don't want this to be the last aimai comment.
Silly mrstilton! Don't you know Obama is only three fifths of a president?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why you think the government hasn't always "been able to crack down violently." For christ's sake the entire battle of this country has been against working and non working people unionizing and fighting for their rights against extreme violent repression by the government. There is nothing new here. Just because the government has changed hands and responds, minimally, to some of the demands of its voters doesn't make it instantly truly democratic/non repressive. Its an ongoing battle--but it won't be fought (successfully) by anyone taking to the streets since the first casualty of democracy is democratic action. Governments are always more afraid of disorder than anything else. Its right there in the constitution--they were going to put in that we have a right to "instruct" our representatives but they changed it to peacefully assemble and petition. That was deliberate--the framers were afraid of a rabble with dreams of entitlement.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate the point here is that Obama is no better than Bush on certain obvious things, sure. But that doesn't make those of us who continue to try to use politics and law to express our views some kind of race traitors to the working class. We just don't always see the need to rage online at the imaginary apathy of other people.
Gasp...argh...can't...hold...out.....good-b........
ReplyDelete"TelePrompTer" also works.
ReplyDeleteSee also Robert Sheckley's 1953 story, "Seventh Victim." It's instructive as to why The Hunger Games became much more popular than its numerous predecessors, though, which does seem to have much to do with the zeitgeist. (That probably also explains why various Palins have been on at least four different reality shows.)
ReplyDeleteGoldberg reveals a sneering sexism to go along with his sneering racisms. After decades of the existence of men's professionalism and credentialism and women "just" being wives, suddenly male dirtbags get all touchy about the frightful arrogance of trumpeting one's degrees when "females" begin doing it. Oh, don't be so gauche, sugartits.
ReplyDeleteSee, this is the difference. Sipping. Breitbart was more of a guzzler.

ReplyDeleteAnd Steve Jobs often took a sip of water during his keynotes and other media events. And nobody cared.
ReplyDeleteThe point is, class-A pros like Jobs sweat the details, so the water is in a convenient place. (And, apparently, is the right kind of water, and at one point it had to be in just the right glass.)
If Jobs were up there introducing the iPhone in front of global media, and his water were placed out of the way so he had to squat and crab-walk to get it, someone would have been chewed up to a bloody nub and, most likely, fired.
I like to think that Rubio's water bottle was sitting on Clint Eastwood's chair, which is posessed by a spirit that really hates Republicans and influences them to do things even more stupidly than usual.

And yeah, I see the edit button...Tempting as that particular Siren is...It would simply be improper...Carry on...I will work on my "chops, Rhetorical, that is...Forgive me as I have been away from the game for awhile.

That's cause they don't think "gvmt leeches" deserve jobs in the first place. They'd love the "gvmt leeches" to experience "funemployment" while secure in wingnut welfare makework.

ReplyDeleteIf you want to update "Gladiator-at-Law" for the modern era (a lovely take-down of exurbia there, and enough law-firm animus to satisfy even Paul Campos), instead of the Struldburgs destroying themselves with a mini-nuke at the end when they realise that their grip on the spectator-society kleptocracy is broken, they would all become pundits and sought-after intervieweers
ReplyDeleteI was reminded of something I read last week from Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Letters and Papers from Prison.
ReplyDeleteBloody fucking hell. Whoever used hand puppets to explain Dietrich Bonhoeffer to modern conservatives needs to be shot.
Seriously, all of a sudden Bonhoeffer is the hot thing in fundigelical circles, because Obama is oppressing Christians just like Adolf "Restore Traditional Christian Values" Hitler oppressed ... um ... left-wing intellectuals, socialists, communists, homosexuals, and Jews. And Christians who wouldn't go along with Nazi programs to fuse church and state. But never mind actual history; the take-home point is, just like Hitler, Obama opposes the general availability of contraception. ... Hang on, let me start again.
