That's to their credit, of course. And I expect they'll go on being nice, in Iraq and in the other countries that, Ralph Peters and others suggest, we will wind up visiting soon. But empires don't stay nice for long, as can be seen by the example of the Romans -- or, as Peters has it, the previous version of us. It's possible, of course, that we'll be different. We certainly used to be.
