BIBI NETANYAHU, SUPER-GENIUS.

And I thought Colin Powell showing fake pictures of WMDs was a UN low point. In the dystopian future, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Erick Erickson will appear before the General Assembly holding up a stick-figure drawing of a guy in a turban with a word balloon that says "GRRR DETH TO AMERICA." Then, Benny Hill music!

  1. Is it common for those leaders who speak English to do so? I wondered if that speech wasn't for American voters. The cartoon bomb is both insulting and astute.

  6. I guess I have to use entirely new jokes... sigh. OK, here goes:
"To those who doubt that we can have peace in the Middle East, this was just given to me by a very polite young Iranian. He said 'Candygram for Mr. Bibi'-- isn't that sweet?"

Someone whose accent sounds that much like Boris Badanov's should not appear in public with drawings of bombs that look like something Boris would use.

  12. I, for one, welcome our new comments overlords.
Also I kept meaning to say, in the former reality,
a guy in a turban with a word balloon that says "GRRR DETH TO AMERICA." Really? He would have 3 R's? Wow, pretty scary. However it is probably part of his contract with the Adult Diaper makers Association of America.

  13. The general mood over at Freeperville was predictable. A sample (via Tommy T) begins with a quote from Limpballs:

"Benjamin Netanyahu, who may be the closest thing we have to a Ronald Reagan or Margaret Thatcher today, Benjamin Netanyahu is at the United Nations. He's giving a great speech, and he's now using a visual aid. He's got a picture of a bomb, a circular bomb with a fuse coming out of the top, and he's explaining where Iran is. No interpreter needed for this. He is explaining to the dictators at the UN how it all works. It's fabulous. (laughing) It is great. I've never seen this. I've never seen a visual aid at a United Nations General Assembly major address like this."

Then one of them pipes in: "Someone needs to Photoshop a birth certificate for this man saying he was born here. Then he can run for President."

    Another: "*Swoon*"

Y'know, this isn't just disconnect. It's a pathology, the only saving grace of which is its tendency to self-destruction through internal policing. If I thought for a moment that they were in a position to control the direction of the country, I'd be planning my escape.

You know, somehow that "Shackletonian missives" line doesn't go so well with this new, modern look. The serious sepia undergraduates were a closer stylistic match to the textual content.

Don't misunderstand me. I like both the traditional alicubi line and the new blog layout. I just don't think they look as good TOGETHER as the old pairing did.

But that's just because I'm stylistically PICKY PICKY PICKY.

I don't get the mileage I used to, either.
